It\u2019s not that easy to read people\u2019s thoughts (yet).\nBut for marketers, it\u2019s possible to figure out what you <em>might <\/em>be interested in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Cookies:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/computer.howstuffworks.com\/cookie1.htm\">A cookie is a text file<\/a> that websites store on your hard drive to figure out how often you visit that site, and for how long.<br> <br> <\/li><li><strong>Facebook pixel:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.hootsuite.com\/facebook-pixel\/\">A piece of code<\/a> you place on your website that helps Facebook understand how users interact with your site.<br> <br> <\/li><li> <strong>Every social media post you like:<\/strong> Ah, those pesky hashtags! Each time you like a post with a particular hashtag, the platform notes how interested you are in that topic.  <br><br><\/li><li><strong>Previous interactions with ads:<\/strong> If you clicked on an ad for a leather wallet, you might love leather phone covers too. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Maybe you were subconsciously thinking about chicken korma last week and \u2018liked\u2019 a bunch of traditional Hyderabadi recipes? Or maybe you clicked a Swiggy ad for a similar dish last week?<br><br>Either way, we\u2019re going to be in for a wild ride pretty soon. Marketers are expanding their sources of consumer data day by day. Here\u2019s what\u2019s going to boom in 2020\u2026<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"wearables\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Wearables<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s estimated that on average, consumers worldwide will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/article\/smartwatch-data-collection-rush-raises-privacy-backlash-fears\/\">spend over $20 billion every year on wearable technology<\/a>\nbetween 2019-2024. Smartwatches are of course the main data point. Health insurance companies are already considering\nusing wearable data to customize policies for consumers. Another factor contributing to this push is that by 2021, it\u2019s estimated\nthat 75% of internet users in India will be using languages <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thinkwithgoogle.com\/intl\/en-apac\/ad-channel\/search\/year-in-search-india-insights\/\">other than English<\/a>,\nmaking voice search easier than typing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.agency09.co\/simplifyingtheweb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/charles-deluvio-gByOS-Vss2E-unsplash-1160x1648.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2326\" width=\"375\" height=\"531\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>What makes Voice so attractive to marketers is its massive potential \u2013 users don\u2019t actually need to purchase another device (except in the case of Alexa) meaning that it opens up Tier 3 and the rural market. And it\u2019s addictive: <a href=\"https:\/\/99firms.com\/blog\/voice-search-statistics\/#gref\">nearly \u2154 of voice users<\/a> didn\u2019t want to go back to their keyboards. Most searches are for music, but the share of non-music searches is growing. In 2019, more than 11% of Americans were using their voice to make a purchase every month. They\u2019re also <a href=\"https:\/\/chatbotslife.com\/3-revolutionary-ways-of-using-chatbots-for-big-data-c0a9076171c3\">useful for deriving insights<\/a>: every chat is a block of data specific to an individual customer. A chatbot for a food delivery service would likely know exactly what you want each day of the week, at specific times of the day. Brands are using them for product launches in clever and quirky ways. Look at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=MnTSQ7QM6pk\">Ready Player One\u2019s launch<\/a>. People who download & use a particular AR filter will likely receive targeted ads for that product. At the same time, the consumers themselves are being ads (albeit really cool ones). AR is expected to be a <a href=\"https:\/\/mbryonic.com\/best-ar-marketing\/\">$35 billion industry<\/a> by 2022.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"final-words\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Final Words<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>We are at a major turning point as far as personalized\nadvertising & data privacy are concerned. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We need to understand that targeted ads aren\u2019t inherently bad\n\u2013 if anything, they make it easier for us to find and buy what we need. While\nsome of will surely have concerns regarding corporations creeping up on us to\nlisten to every word we speak, we need to understand that data is only\ncollected when the consumer gives permission. Operating systems like Android\nand iOS are adding privacy-boosting features day by day, giving us more control\nover our data.
